XHost EASYmove

If you are transferring your domain name to us, EASYmove minimizes the down-time associated during the transfer:

Procedure:

  1. Client signs-up for a new XHost account at http://www.xhost.co.uk
  2. XHost sets up the account ie EMail, Web Site, Username
  3. We also set-up a temporary URL of WHATEVER.xhost.co.uk

For International Domains (.com, .net etc.)

Use the Network Solutions Registry WHOIS services to determine who registered your domain name (select Domain Type and note the Registrar item)

Registered via Network Solutions

  1. We send a change request to Network Solutions, which is then forwarded to current Administrative contact. You can check who this is, by using the WHOIS service.
  2. They need to Acknowledge it and return to Network Solutions.

Note that if you are the administrative contact then it is much quicker for you to request the change directly yourselves - though we do recommend that you send us an email to domains@xhost.co.uk so that we know what's happening.

Registered via another Registrar

  1. Each registrar has different methods on transferring a domain name - contact them directly.

For UK Domains (.co.uk, .org.uk etc.)

  1. Client needs to ask old ISP to change IPSTAG to XHOST. You can use the form to inform them.
  2. Once completed, we send a change request to Nominet asking them to change Name Servers.

What Next?

  1. In the meantime, client can use temporary URL to upload site.
  2. Client can use old mail server for e-Mail
  3. Once the Naming Authorities make the changes, browsers will automatically go to new site.

Tips:

  1. The average time required to move the domain from one ISP a to new provider varies between 24-72 hours based on response time for administrative contact for the domain to authorize the transfer. You should print out this form, and FAX it to your current ISP.
  2. XHost will give you the account access within the same business day. The new site should be published and tested before the domain transfer authorization to avoid having any down time and inconvenience to your visitors.
  3. If you are not listed as the administrative contact for the domain, for faster processing, please request for the tracking number of transfer request from us, and call Network Solutions (InterNIC) or fax them the transfer request as an alternative.
  4. If the site name change is involved, you should keep a transition period of at least 1-2 weeks to redirect site traffic from old location to the new domain name, with "Moved To..." notice.
  5. It is always a good idea to register the domain name with admin. contact email address other than the domain name. This allows you to still manage your domain name with InterNIC even if the site is down or email server is not accessible. For example; for domain www.Yourname.com, you should register the administration information email as You@some-other-email.adress
  6. Email redirection would only get affected after the domain transfer process gets finalized. A backup email address comes handy where you can forward your incoming email during the transition process.
