What exactly is a virtual hosting?

We specialize in Virtual Web Hosting which means that you can find a home for your web site on our web servers and establish a presence on the internet. We can register your own domain name which will become your unique address on the World Wide Web. Having your own domain name does not suggest that you are renting web space, and, since email can be addressed to your domain (i.e. www.yourname.co.uk ) you will not have to announce a new email address if you change internet providers.

Do you offer dial-up internet access?

No, you will need local Internet access in order to maintain your web site and retrieve email addressed to your site. Providing a specialised service means that we do not have hundreds of modems to maintain enabling us to devote more time to our customers and to the addition of enhancements to the entire site.

How powerful are your web servers?

Xhost NT hosting services uses Microsoft® Windows NT 4.0 with Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 4.0, running on high-performance Compaq ProLiant servers. Our standard hosting servers are powered by multiprocessor (Intel Pentium® Pro 200MHz processors) configurations, and with a standard 512MB RAM, RAID 5 Ultra Wide SCSI drives. The servers are tuned to provide maximum performance for web hosting.

What type of server software do you use?

Our hosting servers are running Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 4.0. All servers have Microsoft® Frontpage® 2000 server extensions loaded, and selected servers also have Cold Fusion 4.51 Professional. 

How long does it take to open an account?

We will undertake to setup virtual servers within 5 working days from receiving an order. The timescales for setting up dedicated servers is dependant upon the server required, and ordering timescales and will vary from project to project. For urgent requirements, please contact us.

How do I request a restore of my files?

The site administrator must send an email request (not a phone call) to support@xhost.co.uk, detailing the location of the directory/file(s) to be restored and the required date the files should be restored to. Best endeavors will be made to fulfill the restore request.
